So, whether someone appears to be cheating on you, or is behaving in a dishonest manner within your company, you can discover what exactly is going on thanks to the detective work of a private investigator.

History

The first recorded private detective agency operated in Paris back in 1833. Soldier and former criminal Eugene Francois Vidocq set up a business which involved hiring criminals and ex-convicts to work on the kinds of operations that the police in those times would not carry out. His business was called “Le Bureau des Renseignements Universels pour le commerce et l’Industrie”, which translates to “The Office of Universal Information For Commerce and Industry”.

Television has provided its fair share of private detectives, too. These include: Father Brown, Magnum P.I., Nancy Drew. Perry Mason, Shakespeare & Hathaway: Private Investigators, Sherlock, Veronica Mars.

Based on the GK Chesterton stories, Father Brown was a priest as well as a sleuth. What better disguise for a private investigator? Shakespeare & Hathaway was filmed in Stratford Upon Avon in Shakespeare territory, and would seem to humourize that crimes and misdemeanours can happen anywhere. Sherlock Holmes is portrayed as having a brain superior to that of regular law enforcers. This is indicative of the extra knowledge and advanced thinking that a private investigator could bring to your case.

Why Not Just Investigate by Myself?

Private investigators generally have years of expertise in the field of criminal investigation, with the knowhow to successfully conduct manhunts that really do find missing persons. Those missing might be persons escaping the law and justice, who the police have not been able to find, or persons who have fallen out with their families and do not even know that their families are out their looking for them.
